The Innovators for Internet Video Management

Vidispine

Arvato Systems acquired 100% of the company shares of the Swedish company Vidispine in November 2017. The two companies are jointly developing new solutions for the cloud-based management of digital media content.

Investment in the digital future of Arvato Systems

Streaming services, product videos, e-learning courses – an increasing amount of online content is transported via videos. According to estimates of the American IT network specialist Cisco, videos will make up more than 80 percent of the global online traffic by the year 2021. Arvato Systems has positioned itself for this growth market with the acquisition of the IT service provider Vidispine in November 2017: The Swedish company is one of the leading and most innovative providers of cloud-based solutions in the field of Media Asset Management (MAM).

Vidispine’s portfolio

The Vidispine portfolio is based on the Vidispine Server: This content management platform functions, for example, as the backbone for the creation, management, storage and processing of digital content. Other applications can be docked via an interface (API). “VidiXplore,” a cloud-based software application (SaaS) enables users to work with the system. Teams can manage video content across different storage locations – regardless of whether it is in the cloud or on-premise. “Vidinet” provides a cloud-based IT platform (PaaS) that offers easy access to functions such as transcoding, i.e., the transformation of video files into other video formats, or quality assurance.

Real added value for customers

These services are also of interest to companies that provide many videos in other industries. And they complement the MAM solutions of Arvato Systems such as the “Video Production Management Suite” (VMPS). Another advantage is that the next generation of VPMS will build on the Vidispine architectur

“We are able to bring VPMS into the cloud and save about two years of development time,” explained Ralf Schürmann, who is responsible for the Arvato Systems Group’s media division. Vidispine, with currently around 30 employees, also benefits from the collaboration: “Arvato Systems clearly has a more international position and can better guarantee 24/7 infrastructure service, for example,” added Schürmann. Together, the two companies can now approach new client groups and develop more solutions. The foundation has already been laid: Regular meeting and job shadowing ensure knowledge transfer, and the development of new products and sales activities for this year have been coordinated.

Valuable assistance for video providers - A brief overview

With its “Video Production Management Suite” (VPMS), Arvato Systems offers a solution package for the production, processing, and management of digital video content. VPMS covers all of the stages in the process: from the recording to the production, playout, distribution and archiving. German and international broadcasting networks, media companies and production agencies are already successfully using VPMS.
